Wiltshire Life Magazine – a free e-copy

To Wiltshire Parish Clerks,

For many of us, the Easter weekend is synonymous with attending church, seeing family and exploring our magnificent county. However, as Wiltshire adjusts to the challenges posed by the coronavirus outbreak, we understand that this bank holiday weekend might be a lonely and isolating time for some people.

Wiltshire Life, a subscription based magazine, has been the county magazine for Wiltshire for more than 70 years ‘one magazine, one county’ and so during this Easter period we would like to offer everyone in the county access to a digital version of our latest issue of the magazine without having to pay. This is a small gesture, which we hope will provide some connection to the outside world during these troubling times.

To access, they will need to complete a short form and we will email them the digital issue. Please can you share this link to your contacts in and around your parish(es):

I hope that you enjoy our free digital edition and have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Best wishes,

Georgie Green

Belle Voci Concert for the ABF – The Soldiers’ Charity (22nd June 2019)

Dear Resident,

As you may have heard there is a charity concert for ABF The Soldiers Charity by Belle Voci (two classical singers who were finalists in The Voice 2018) taking place at Manor Barn on Saturday 22 June from about 7 pm until 9.30pm when the concert is due to end. There will also be the Pipes and Drums of the Royal Tank Regiment performing during the interval. We hope to have 250 people there.
I apologise in advance for the noise and any inconvenience this may cause. Should you choose to join the party and hear the concert, I would be happy to reduce the ticket price for you and your family/friends to just £20 each (from £25), including a glass of champagne.
If you would like to take advantage of this, please contact the office, so we know how many are coming. The telephone number or email is on the attached poster, or alternatively just turn up on the night and pay £20 at the entrance, but please try and let us know and bring this letter with you to qualify for the discount.

Yours sincerely,

Tony Blanch
Chairman, Wilts ABF Soldiers Charity Committee

Event Committee: Report on the Accounts

The Parish Council, as per item 12 of the Minutes of 2nd August 2018, commissioned a report on the accounts of the Winterbourne Stoke Events Committee to help reassure any incoming committee of the legacy they were inheriting and as a condition of the Parish Council underwriting the insurance costs of the equipment owned by the Events Committee.

The Parish Council have now received this report which we cannot, for legal reasons, publish in its entirety.  Suffice it to say, there was evidence that best practise was not adhered to in the way the accounting records had been managed for the period prior to the current committee taking office.  The Parish Council hope that these shortcomings will be rectified and that, in future,  the Events Committee, if it continues, will adopt best accounting practice.

All those eligible to stand as Events Committee members can view the report by requesting access from the Clerk.

Regrettably, there has been little or no activity by the Events Committee since its election and we would hope that they will now be spurred to action to organise some events for the summer.  Alternatively, an enterprising villager or two might want to spur an extraordinary meeting of the Events Committee and its membership (the village) with a view to getting things moving again; perhaps by adopting a new constitution and/or voting in a new and dynamic committee.
